“Enrichment, Experience and Excitement”
These are the three words that summarized my internship in Thailand. This internship was last September 15, 2016- February 23, 2017 wherein I spent almost 6months. Indeed a long time, but I could say that this is the best time of my student life.
The first time I decided to take this internship, I got nothing but doubt about myself that I don’t have the ability to do this. I don’t have enough tools and I’m not yet ready. But I’m an avid fan of Vietnamese students who are taking part in IASTE.
Every single day, I would be amazed looking at the photos of students in IASTE Vietnam facebook page taking internships in different parts of the world. That’s why upon seeing the announcement that an internship in Thailand is available. I took the risk. I applied and put aside the negative thoughts and took a chance. For that I would like to express my gratitude in particular to Ms. Bui Thang Huong and the IASTE Organization for doing their best to attend to me. Moreover, I owe a lot of gratitude to the TNUT International Training Office and Dr. Minh Y for supporting me in the path that I have chosen.
After few days, I jump for joy when I received the news that I got accepted for this internship. But I know this is just the beginning and there are more to obstacles to come.
The first few days were tough in Thailand. The first time my two little feet step on the company. Wild imaginations of not meeting their expectations were there. But then, the IASTE Thailand and the company itself- Western Digital Thailand generously guided me.
Western Digital Corporation (WD) is a pioneer in hard disk drive storage manufacturing since the 1980’s. Headquartered in Irvine, California, they are a leading developer, manufacturer and provider of data storage technologies and solutions wherein consumers, businesses, governments and other organizations create, manage, experience and preserve digital data.
The company’s product portfolio includes hard disk drives (HDD), solid-state drives (SDD), direct attached storage solutions, personal cloud network at-tached storage solutions, and public and private cloud data center storage solutions. They are marketed under the HGST, SanDisk and WD brands to OEMs, distributors, resellers, cloud infrastructure providers and consumers.
At present, the company’s main product and today’s primary storage medium for the vast majority of digital content is the hard disk drive (HDD).
And comes to a great company is a great responsibility. These are the times wherein I have to meet deadlines every week at work. I was challenged to a lot of things. At first, I thought I couldn’t do it.
There were times that I feel like giving up but there were the people who got my back. They are my friends who are from different parts of the world- Canada, Australia, Germany, India, Turkey, Japan, South Africa, Serbia and China. Just imagined having these amazing genuine people and culture all in one place, IASTE Internship! They were there to remind me that I’m not alone in this situation. At the same time, I realized the friendship that I had made in this internship is inimitable.
Slowly, I got familiar with the company. I got to learn a lot of interesting things that I never thought I would be learning, knowledge that are outside the blank ink of those white papers in our books! The excitement of meeting the tasks assigned to you no matter how difficult it is started. More than the fears and the doubts come the little girl gradually breaking her shell to confidence.
I would always wake up early to make sure I meet the tasks in the company. I was able to finish my project presentation to the company. Add to that, I was able to present Thai Nguyen University of Technology to hundreds of people and most importantly to an International Company. Studying in the advanced program is really an edge.
To be honest, this internship really changed my perspective a lot.
And for all the students out there, you should not be afraid that you are not good enough. That you are not up to it! More than the knowledge that we memorized in books, I believe that we should take the chance to experience more!
Remember, a thousand miles of journey begins in one step. Would you take the first step?
